Comparison of Compression and Distillation Processes for Essential Oils Extraction from Citrus

XIE Lian-wu~(1), GUO Ya-ping~(1),ZHOU Chun-shan~(1), ZHOU Jin-hua~(1,2)(1.School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Central South University, Changsha 410083,China;2. School of Science, Central South Forestry University, Zhuzhou 412006,China )

In order to identify a continuous process for essential oils extraction from citrus with the characters of low-cost, low resource-consuming and high efficiency, compression process is used in the essential oils extraction from citrus by compared with distillation process. The study result shows that the recovery of transparent essential oils by distillation process is 1.2%~2.1%, and the smaller granularity and the more additive ammonium chloride, the bigger the recovery. In contrast to this, the recovery of flaxen essential oils by compression process is lower as 1.0%~1.6%, but its odor is as better as close to the fragrance of natural fresh citrus. Therefore, compression process is fit for large-scale continuous citrus essential oils produce.

The Experimental Study of Adsorption-Photocatalytic Oxidation of Formaldehyde with ACF and TiO_2

HU Jiang-jun, LI Ying-liu, PENG Wei-hua (School of Resource and Environmental Science, Wuhan University, Wuhan 430072, China)

TiO2 was used as a photocatalyst and activated carbon fibres that supported TiO2 as an adsorbent to decontaminate formaldehyde gas of low concentration. The photocatalyst was prepared by sol-gel technique and modified with Fe3+and so it got a higher activity. Activated carbon fibres loaded with TiO2 was exposed to UV light with the result that formaldehyde gas was adsorbed by ACF and then photocatalytic oxidized into CO2 and H_2O. In the experiment, effects of reaction time, does of titanium dioxide and formaldehyde concentration have been studied, and the adsorption capability of ACF used in photocatalytic oxidation was also tested.

Study on Performance of Anaerobic Digestion for Treating Municipal Solid Waste at Different Temperature

WU Man-chang,SUN Ke-wei,LI Ru-yan,SUN Yan,ZHANG Hai-dong (National Engineering Research Center of Solid Waste Resource Recovery , Kunming University of Science and Technology, Kunming 650033, China)

The influence of different temperature on performance of anaerobic fermentation was studied. The parameters adopted for evaluation were biogas production、fermentation starting time and the proportions between solid/water during the digestion process under different temperature. The evaluation of sudden change of temperature affecting the fermentation process were studied too. The result indicated that the optimum temperature for MSW anaerobic fermentation was 55℃. The organic solid waste were degraded very well and the methane concentration in biogas were comparatively high during 55℃.
