We extracted the pigment from cottonseed hulls by ultrasonic-assisted deep eutectic solvents(DESs) method.Moreover, we optimized the extraction process by single-factor experiments and response surface methodologies.Furthermore, we evaluated the antioxidant activity of pigment from cottonseed hulls by the determination of the scavenging rates of DPPH and ABTS free radicals.The results show that the optimal extraction process is as follows: DESs-5(choline chloride-ethylene glycol, molar ratio of 1∶1) is adopted as the extraction solvent, the water content of DESs-5 is 11%,the solid-liquid ratio is 1∶50(g∶mL),the ultrasonic time is 63 min, the ultrasonic power is 150 W,and the ultrasonic temperature is 50 ℃.Under above conditions, the extraction amount of pigment from cottonseed hulls can reach 29.512 mg·g-1.The DESs extract of pigment from cottonsead hulls exhibits excellent antioxidant activity.Its scavenging rates for DPPH and ABTS free radicals are the highest at 79.03% and 89.82%,respectively, and its antioxidant activity is superior to that of the water extract.The study provides a scientific basis and technical support for the development and utilization of cottonseed hulls resources.
